Applications are accepted online through the DPIIT internship portal.
About the DPIIT Internship Scheme
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) implements the DPIIT Internship Scheme for students and research scholars enrolled in recognised universities or institutions in India or abroad.
The main objective of the scheme is to help students understand how the Government of India works. It also gives interns exposure to the schemes and activities handled by DPIIT.
The programme can benefit students who want to understand government policy, administration and departmental work. In particular, law students can use the internship to gain exposure to government-related legal and policy work.
Students can select an internship period according to their requirements, subject to the prescribed duration of one to three months.
The department accepts applications only through its online application system.
Eligibility, Duration and Stipend
Students pursuing graduation, postgraduation or research in the eligible disciplines can apply for the DPIIT Internship Scheme.
The listed eligible fields include:
- Engineering
- Management
- Law
- Economics
- Finance
- Computers
- Library Management
Students from other disciplines may also receive consideration depending on the department’s requirements and the specific case.
The DPIIT Internship Scheme 2026 allows an internship for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months. The department can select up to 20 interns at a time.
Selected interns receive a stipend of ₹10,000 per month. However, the department starts processing the stipend only after the intern completes the internship period.
Interns who satisfactorily complete the required internship receive an Experience Certificate. On the other hand, students who do not satisfactorily complete the required period will not receive either the certificate or stipend.
At the end of the assignment, interns must also submit a brief report or paper to the concerned Divisional Head. The report should describe their learning experience during the internship.
Application Process and Selection
Students can apply online through the official DPIIT Internship Portal:
Apply for the DPIIT Internship Scheme
The application process involves a few basic steps. First, applicants need to open the online application form and enter all mandatory details. Next, they must agree to the applicable terms and conditions.
Applicants must then verify their mobile number and email ID. After completing the verification, they can submit the application.
DPIIT compiles the applications received through the online portal through its Establishment Division. Different sections and divisions then communicate their requirements for interns and the relevant discipline.
Based on these requirements, the concerned division receives applications from the relevant discipline and selects candidates through its prescribed procedure. The selection requires approval from the concerned Wing Head. DPIIT then completes the required approval process and sends the internship offer to selected candidates.
The internship portal remains open during two application periods each year: 1 March to 30 April and 1 September to 31 October.
Applications received from 1 March to 30 April are considered for internships conducted from June to August. Similarly, applications received from 1 September to 31 October are considered for internships conducted from November to January.
Therefore, students planning to apply during the September–October window should submit their applications within the prescribed period.

Applicants should keep the required documents and information ready before starting the online application. The DPIIT Internship Scheme requires the following:
