About the Internship

This is a full-time, in-person internship based in New Delhi, ordinarily running for one month (four weeks) per slot. The Department opens fresh monthly slots on a rolling basis throughout the year, so you can apply for whichever upcoming month suits your academic calendar. Each monthly slot typically accommodates a limited number of interns, based on the Department’s requirements at the time.

Selected interns are attached to an officer at the level of Deputy Secretary, Director, Joint Secretary, or the Secretary, Department of Justice, and are placed across divisions such as Access to Justice, e-Courts, and Fast Track Special Courts, depending on availability.

What Work Will You Do?

Expect research-oriented and policy-support work, including:

  • Research and referencing work across specialised areas of justice delivery
  • Supporting Access to Justice initiatives such as Tele-law, Nyaya Bandhu, and pro bono legal services
  • Assisting with e-Courts services and the computerisation of court processes
  • Contributing to work under the Fast Track Special Courts scheme and related judicial reform initiatives
  • Preparing a report on the work undertaken, to be submitted at the end of the internship

Who Should Apply?

Eligibility for this internship is fairly specific:

  • Students in the 2nd or 3rd year of a 3-year LLB programme
  • Students in the 3rd to 5th year of a 5-year LLB programme
  • Students who have already completed their LLB from a recognised college, law school, or university
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old
  • A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your college or university is required as part of the application

Important Things to Note Before Applying

  • This is a paid internship, with an honorarium of INR 5,000, paid upon successful completion.
  • The internship is full-time and in-person — remote participation is not permitted.
  • 90% attendance is mandatory for the internship to be considered successfully completed.
  • Interns are expected to make their own arrangements for accommodation during the internship.
  • Interns must be present at the designated office from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, unless otherwise permitted.
  • No TA/DA or remuneration other than the completion honorarium is provided.
  • The internship does not guarantee any future employment with the Department.
  • The Department may terminate an intern’s placement at any time, without assigning a reason.

  5. Wait for confirmation, which is typically communicated via SMS and email.
