I have recently completed my second year of law school and, over the past two years, have tried to gain exposure to different areas of legal practice through internships and certificate courses. So far, I have interned with an NGO, a lawyer’s office, and the High Court, while also pursuing courses in Intellectual Property Rights and Contract Drafting.

Although these experiences have helped me understand different aspects of the legal profession, they have also left me uncertain about which career path I should pursue. I enjoy exploring different areas of law, but I also worry that delaying specialization might put me behind students who have already chosen a clear career direction.

At what stage should a student begin specializing, and what factors should they consider before committing to a particular area of law?
