The Kanhaiya Lal Misra Moot Court Competition 2026 is the 2nd National Moot Court Competition organised by Shambhunath Institute of Law (SIL), Prayagraj. The competition aims to bring together law students from across India for an academically rigorous experience focused on legal research, written advocacy, oral advocacy and courtroom skills.

Following the successful commencement of the competition in 2022, the second edition seeks to continue its focus on academic excellence and practical legal learning. The competition is organised in honour of Late Pt. Kanhaiya Lal Misra, a distinguished jurist and eminent lawyer whose contribution to the legal profession continues to inspire aspiring legal professionals.

About the Moot Court Competition

Shambhunath Institute of Law, Prayagraj, is organising the 2nd National Moot Court Competition, 2026 as a platform for law students to engage with challenging legal issues and develop practical advocacy skills.

The competition will provide participating teams with an opportunity to work on a challenging moot proposition and prepare arguments through extensive legal research and analysis. Participants can also develop their written and oral advocacy skills through the competition’s rigorous rounds.

The event welcomes law schools, universities and institutions from across India. By bringing students from different institutions together, the competition also encourages academic interaction and peer learning.

The competition is organised in memory of Pt. Kanhaiya Lal Misra, whose contribution to the legal fraternity forms an important part of the event’s identity.

For detailed competition rules, participants can refer to the official Competition Rules. The official Moot Proposition is also available for participants to review.

Competition Objectives

The Kanhaiya Lal Misra Moot Court Competition 2026 aims to promote several important skills that law students need for their academic and professional development.

First, the competition focuses on legal research and analytical reasoning. Participants must engage with complex legal questions and develop well-supported arguments. This process can strengthen their ability to identify legal issues, interpret authorities and construct coherent submissions.

The competition also places emphasis on written advocacy. Preparing written submissions requires students to organise their arguments clearly while supporting them through appropriate legal research.

In addition, the oral rounds provide an opportunity to develop oral advocacy and courtroom skills. Participants can practise presenting arguments, responding to questions and defending their legal position in a competitive setting.

Beyond these individual skills, the competition seeks to promote critical thinking, professional ethics and excellence in legal education. It also encourages students to learn from their peers and from members of the legal fraternity associated with the event.

Why Participate?

Participating in a national moot court competition can give law students practical experience that complements classroom learning. The Kanhaiya Lal Misra Moot Court Competition 2026 offers students an opportunity to test their research and advocacy skills against teams from different institutions.

The competition can also help students improve their legal research, written advocacy and oral advocacy. Working on a challenging proposition requires participants to understand the relevant legal issues and build arguments from multiple authorities.

Moreover, the experience can strengthen important courtroom skills for law students. Students get an opportunity to present arguments in a structured competitive environment and develop greater confidence in oral submissions.

The competition also creates an academically stimulating environment where participants can interact with other law students and members of the legal fraternity. Therefore, the experience can contribute to both professional development and a broader understanding of legal advocacy.

Students and institutions interested in participating can check the official Registration Details and complete the registration process according to the prescribed requirements.
