The CLAT PG 2027 important dates are:

The registration and examination dates are confirmed, while the admit card and result timelines remain provisional until the Consortium issues the relevant notices.
Candidates should complete CLAT PG 2027 registration through the official Consortium portal. First, create an account using a valid mobile number and email address. These details are important because the registered mobile number and email cannot be changed later.
Next, enter your personal, academic and category information. Upload the required documents in the prescribed format and pay the applicable application fee. Finally, review all information carefully before submitting the form.
Pay particular attention to your name, date of birth and category details. Candidates should also make sure that their details match their official documents. Although a correction window may open later, it should not be treated as a substitute for checking the form before submission.
CLAT PG 2027 Eligibility and Application Fee
The CLAT PG 2027 eligibility criteria require candidates to hold an LLB degree. Graduates of both three-year LLB and five-year integrated law programmes can apply if they satisfy the required academic conditions.
Candidates from the General, OBC, EWS and other unreserved categories need at least 50% aggregate marks in their LLB. SC and ST candidates need at least 45% aggregate marks.
There is no upper age limit for CLAT PG. Therefore, graduates who have taken a gap after their LLB or are already working can also apply, provided they meet the other requirements.
Final-year LLB students may also apply provisionally. However, they must complete the degree requirements and provide the required proof before admission.
The eligibility framework also covers Indian nationals, NRIs, PIO cardholders and OCI cardholders. Foreign nationals are not eligible to sit for CLAT for the PG programme. Candidates seeking NRI or NRI-sponsored seats should also check the individual NLU’s admission rules because these categories can have separate requirements.
CLAT PG Application Fee
The CLAT PG application fee is:
- ₹4,000 for General, OBC, PWD, NRI, PIO and OCI candidates.
- ₹3,500 for SC, ST and BPL candidates.
Candidates can pay through debit card, credit card, UPI or net banking. The application fee is non-refundable, so verify your category and eligibility before making the payment.
For the CLAT PG application process, candidates should keep their academic documents, photograph, signature and category or PWD certificates, where applicable, ready before beginning the application.
CLAT PG 2027 Exam Pattern and Syllabus
The CLAT PG 2027 exam pattern remains unchanged from the previous structure. The examination consists of 120 multiple-choice questions carrying one mark each.
The major features of the CLAT PG exam pattern are:
- Total questions: 120
- Maximum marks: 120
- Duration: 2 hours
- Question type: Multiple-choice questions
- Mode: Offline, pen-and-paper
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer
- Unattempted questions: No negative marking
Unlike CLAT UG, CLAT PG does not divide the paper into separate sections. Candidates answer questions covering the prescribed areas of law within the same question paper.
CLAT PG 2027 Syllabus
The CLAT PG 2027 syllabus covers a broad range of legal subjects. The major areas include:
- Constitutional Law
- Jurisprudence
- Administrative Law
- Law of Contract
- Law of Torts
- Family Law
- Criminal Law
- Property Law
- Company Law
- Public International Law
- Tax Law
- Environmental Law
- Labour and Industrial Law
Because the CLAT PG subjects cover a wide range of legal areas, candidates should focus on conceptual understanding instead of relying only on memorisation.
Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence are particularly important areas for preparation. At the same time, candidates should not ignore the remaining subjects because the examination can test knowledge across the prescribed syllabus.
A practical CLAT PG preparation strategy should include regular revision of Bare Acts, important judgments and core legal principles. Solving previous questions can also help candidates understand the type of concepts tested and improve time management.
CLAT PG 2027 Participating Universities
The CLAT PG participating NLUs include National Law Universities that use CLAT scores for their LLM admissions. According to the information covered here, 26 NLUs and IIULER Goa accept CLAT PG scores, together offering approximately 1,200+ LLM seats.
However, candidates should not assume that every major law university accepts CLAT scores.
For example, NLU Delhi does not use CLAT for its LLM admission process. It conducts the separate AILET PG examination. Similarly, NLU Meghalaya does not participate in the CLAT Consortium, while Chanakya National Law University, Patna follows a separate admission process for its LLM programme.
Some private law schools also accept CLAT PG scores as part of their LLM admissions. These include institutions such as Jindal Global Law School, Nirma University and NMIMS.
Therefore, candidates should check the admission notification of each university before finalising their preference list. The number of seats, admission rules and category requirements can vary between institutions.
CLAT PG 2027: What About Future Changes?
The Consortium has constituted an Expert Committee to examine possible medium- and long-term reforms to CLAT UG and PG. The committee is chaired by Justice Indu Malhotra and includes academics from institutions such as Oxford, the London School of Economics, Columbia and Cambridge.
However, these reforms do not apply to CLAT PG 2027. The Consortium has clarified that recommendations from the committee are intended to apply from CLAT 2028 onward.
Therefore, candidates preparing for the December 2026 examination can follow the existing CLAT PG 2027 exam pattern without expecting a structural change during their preparation.
