What is the Competition Commission of India?
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is a statutory body of the Government of India. Specifically, it enforces the Competition Act, 2002 and prevents activities that have an appreciable adverse effect on competition in India. CCI was established on 14 October 2003 and, since then, has functioned as India’s primary competition law regulator.
For law students interested in competition law, antitrust regulation, or corporate law, therefore, an internship at CCI offers direct exposure to one of India’s most important regulatory bodies.
About the CCI Internship 2026
CCI invites applications from eligible law students for its Legal Internship Programme. Notably, the internship runs on a rolling basis — CCI accepts 15 interns every month throughout the year. As a result, there is no single application deadline. Instead, you must apply by the 1st of the month before your intended start month.
Moreover, selected interns receive an honorarium of Rs. 15,000 per month.
Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria
You are eligible if you fall into one of these categories:
- 2nd or 3rd year students of a 3-year LLB degree (after graduation)
- 4th or final year students of a 5-year integrated law course, including students who have cleared their 3rd year exam and are entering 4th year
- LLM students
In addition to the above, the following conditions also apply:
- Only Indian Nationals can apply
- Your institution must be a recognised one with exposure to Competition Law
- Furthermore, students who already have a placement offer in hand are not eligible
Stipend and Duration
CCI pays interns an honorarium of Rs. 15,000 per month. Ordinarily, the internship runs for one month, starting on the 1st working day of the month. However, if you want to intern for 2 to 3 months, you can apply for that extended period with a recommendation from your university or institution.
How to Apply for the CCI Internship
Follow these steps carefully:
- First, fill the application in the prescribed format only — CCI does not accept applications in any other format.
- Next, get a recommendation from the competent authority at your institution, since applications without recommendations are not considered.
- Additionally, write a Statement of Purpose of around 200 words covering a brief introduction of your topic and your study objectives.
- Then, send your application so that it reaches CCI by the 1st of the month before your intended internship month. For example, if you want to intern in August, apply by July 1st.
- Finally, you can either post your application to: The Secretary, Competition Commission of India, 10th Floor, Office Block, Tower 1, Ring Road (Opposite AIIMS), Kidwai Nagar (East), New Delhi – 110023. Alternatively, you can email your application to internships@cci.gov.in.
