Sharnam Agarwal | 2nd Year, National Law Institute University, Bhopal | Singhania & Partners LLP | Dispute Resolution
Q1. How did you secure this internship?
Sharnam applied by sending her CV and cover letter directly to the firm’s HR team through their official internship email. She applied roughly 3–4 months before the December cycle and received confirmation in August. Applying early and sending polite follow-up emails made the difference.
Q2. What did her CV look like at the time?
Her profile included prior internship experience in dispute resolution — notably at Hammurabi & Solomon Partners — along with academic publications and legal research work. A research-oriented profile with demonstrated practice-area focus strengthened the application significantly.
Q3. What kind of work did she do during the internship?
The work was primarily research and drafting — case briefs, Lists of Dates (LODs), and research notes. Interns also briefed their teams on assigned issues while coordinating with co-interns. The experience gave practical exposure to commercial dispute resolution matters inside a full-service firm.
Q4. What were her key learnings and challenges?
She learned how legal research works in a professional setting, the value of concise drafting, and how dispute resolution teams manage ongoing matters. The main challenge was adapting to the firm’s work style and maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.
Q5. What advice would she give to juniors?
→ Apply at least 3–4 months in advance — seats fill fast for top firms.
→ Keep your CV tight and practice-area focused, not generic.
→ Send polite follow-up emails; persistence signals genuine interest.
→ Prior internship experience in the same practice area (even at a smaller firm) adds real weight.
Q6. The honest reality of such internships
Selection at Singhania & Partners was largely CV-based with no formal interview. There are phases where work is limited depending on the team’s workload — which can feel monotonous, especially if you have relocated to Delhi specifically for the internship. Going in with realistic expectations helps.
