Every intern is placed under a mentor, usually an associate or senior associate, who reviews their work. Interns also get daily contact with other associates on the team, and rare contact with the partner.
In Projects, Energy and Infrastructure, a recent Delhi intern did tender tracking, research on the Electricity Act and regulator guidelines, due diligence research and a review of real PPAs and PSAs. Across offices and years, students describe research, proofreading, cross-referencing agreements, rough drafting and due diligence support. Interns usually don’t draft transaction documents from scratch.
In a large firm, work doesn’t always arrive on its own. Ask your mentor and associates for tasks every day, and interns say even a 40–50% success rate gets you noticed. Workload can also swing between quiet spells and sudden rushes.

Trilegal is one of the most sought-after firms, so the written criteria understate how competitive selection is. Students report that the online assessments are now required for everyone, including applicants who come through a referral or a placement cell, so a reference alone won’t get you in.
Students from non-NLU colleges also report getting internships and callbacks. A recent intern had a varied CV (district courts, tribunals, a High Court judicial internship, litigation firms and boutique firms) plus competition wins and leadership roles.
