Quick Overview
About Khaitan & Co Internship
Khaitan & Co is one of India’s oldest full-service law firms. It was founded in 1911 by Debi Prasad Khaitan and advises business houses, multinational corporations, global investors, financial institutions, governments and international law firms.
According to its Chambers profile, the firm has over 1,300 fee earners, including around 250 partners and directors. It has offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, GIFT City and Singapore. Chambers lists Khaitan as a leading firm in Asia-Pacific for 2026, with 26 ranked departments.
The firm covers the full range of Indian practice areas, from M&A, banking and finance, and capital markets to tax, competition, intellectual property, employment, real estate, technology, media and telecom, and dispute resolution. It also runs one of India’s largest dedicated private client and wealth practices.
Internship at Khaitan & Co Internship
Khaitan & Co says its internship programme runs through the year and is designed to give your career a head start. The firm works with the placement committees of various law schools and also processes internship applications directly. If your law school already runs a coordinated programme with the firm, the firm asks you to contact your campus coordination committee. Everyone else applies through the form on the website.
Interns are placed in a practice team. Third-party listings describe the role as supporting the team with research, due diligence and documentation.
Insider info
What interns do. Intern accounts describe mostly legal research, due diligence support and some drafting, depending on the team. Older Lawctopus accounts from the Kolkata office mention research on company law, FEMA and SEBI regulations, and due diligence reports, with some interns drafting replies to show cause notices and assisting on writ petitions. A Delhi intern from an older account worked on corporate and telecom matters, and the Mumbai office helped with a due diligence question on Maharashtra law. A Glassdoor review from a Mumbai intern says interns mostly do research and are not given much substantial work.
Teams. Recent community threads mention interns choosing between teams such as General Corporate and Competition at the Noida office. Ask HR which teams are open when you get your confirmation.
Buddy and worksheet system. Anonymous Legally India comments say each intern gets an assigned associate who acts as a buddy, and that you are expected to keep a worksheet updated. Staying in regular touch with your buddy and with other associates in the team is repeatedly recommended.
Culture. Glassdoor reviews of the internship are positive overall. Legal intern reviews average 4.0 out of 5 across 18 reviews, and a separate set of intern reviews averages 4.5 across 8. Reviewers praise helpful, friendly people, flexible hours and the fact that interns are paid. Common complaints are cyclical workloads (too much work at times, none at others), long hours in some teams, and, in a September 2025 review from Mumbai, too many interns in one team with no proper work flow. A Noida intern in October 2025 said interns were seated in the basement, away from partners and associates, which limited networking.
Format varies. Many 2022 to 2024 accounts describe virtual internships, including a month where the firm had over 40 interns. More recent comments mention both virtual and in-person internships at Noida. Ask HR which format applies to your dates.
Older office notes. Older accounts (2013 to 2020) describe a formal dress code, ID badges, and a first-day briefing that included the firm’s sexual harassment policy. They are useful for flavour, but the offices, stipends and processes have changed since.
Eligibility
Khaitan & Co’s website does not list formal eligibility criteria for internships. Third-party listings generally say:
Students pursuing a 3-year LL.B. (2nd or 3rd year) or a 5-year LL.B. (4th or 5th year)
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to use research tools such as Manupatra and SCC Online
A working knowledge of core procedural and commercial laws (CPC, Contract Act, Specific Relief Act, Limitation Act, Arbitration and Conciliation Act)
Comfort with MS Office and similar tools, with a preference for advanced computer skills
On its careers page, the firm says it looks for drive and intellectual curiosity, legal acumen, commercial awareness, interpersonal skills, digital fluency and collaborative behaviour.
Insider info
Campus-coordinated programmes can have stricter conditions. For example, a 2024 notice from Delhi University’s Law Centre-1 for a long-term Noida internship asked for second-year students with a strong interest in corporate law, a cumulative score of at least 55%, at least two earlier internships (preferably one at a leading firm) and a writing sample. This is one example from one campus, not a firm-wide rule.
Anonymous community comments say internships are sometimes arranged through contacts, but the same comments say the stipend is the same regardless of how you got in.
How to Apply
Open the “Join Our Team” form on Khaitan & Co’s website (khaitanco.com/join-our-team). You can also reach it from the Apply button on the Careers page.
Under “Apply For”, choose Internship.
Enter your full name and email address.
Pick a preferred location. The current form lists Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Singapore.
Upload your CV and any relevant transcripts.
Verify your email with the OTP the form sends, then submit.
If your law school has a coordinated programme with the firm, contact your campus placement or internship committee first.
Insider info
Keep your CV to the point and attach your latest transcript. The form asks for both, and the firm says it works directly with law school committees, so check with your own committee before applying on your own, since you may be able to go through a coordinated slot.
Application Timeline
There is no published deadline, and the firm says its programme runs through the year.
A student guide recommends applying about 3 to 4 months before your preferred start date. Some third-party guides give specific seasonal windows, but I could not find any official confirmation of them, so don’t rely on them.
Insider info
Crowded months. Community threads mention months (such as June) when the firm had over 40 interns and moved some internships online.
Callback and PPO. According to anonymous Legally India comments, at the end of the internship you give a presentation, a feedback form goes to your team, and the team’s feedback decides whether you get a callback or a PPO. The same comments say teams can be slow to fill in the feedback, and that if your team only gave you light research or editing, there may be little to assess. One commenter says the firm effectively allows only one internship per student, so if you don’t get a callback or PPO after it, that is the end of the road. Treat these as unverified.
Hiring. A recent comment (about six months old) says there is a complete hiring freeze for freshers except campus hires. A Glassdoor reviewer also called conversion to full-time erratic. Don’t assume an internship converts into a job offer.
Stipend
Khaitan & Co does not publish its stipend. What interns and community members report:
About ₹8,000 per month, which is the most consistent figure. It appears in a Lawctopus account of a Delhi internship (₹8,000 for 4 weeks, reduced in proportion if you take leave) and in several Legally India comments covering 2022 to 2024, including virtual internships.
One commenter says the stipend is the same regardless of how you entered the firm, whether through merit or contacts.
A few comments report variation: one intern received ₹8,000 in one stint, ₹7,200 in another and ₹6,200 in a third, and another says the Kolkata office pays about ₹5,000.
Older Lawctopus accounts from Kolkata mention ₹1,000 per week to ₹5,000 per month, which are no longer representative.
Treat these figures as approximate and confirm with HR before you start.
Insider info
Leave is reportedly deducted in proportion from the stipend, so plan your days accordingly. A 2018 Delhi account also says interns can claim reimbursements for expenses they incur while working on a matter. Check whether that still applies.
A Glassdoor reviewer noted that the firm paying its interns is rare, which is a fair summary: ₹8,000 is not high, but it is paid consistently.

Insider info
Delhi-NCR has two separate internship locations, New Delhi (Barakhamba Road) and Noida (Sector 16B), and Gurugram is another office, so confirm which one your team sits in. Mumbai also has three offices.
Pay and format can differ by office. Check the commute before you accept, since several intern accounts come from Noida, where interns may be seated away from the main floors.
