Call for Papers
The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi, invites original research papers for a National Seminar on “Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL)”, themed “Revisiting Perspectives, Reclaiming Voice, Reshaping Law.”
The seminar will bring together scholars, researchers, practitioners and students to examine the contributions, experiences and evolving perspectives of Third World approaches to the development, application and transformation of international law.
Theme
Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL)
Theme: “Revisiting Perspectives, Reclaiming Voice, Reshaping Law.”
The seminar will explore TWAIL from historical, legal, political and contemporary perspectives. In particular, participants may examine the following areas:
- Historical foundations of TWAIL
- Decolonisation and the making of international law
- Sovereignty, development and the New International Economic Order
- Human rights, self-determination and solidarity
- TWAIL perspectives on international institutions
- Climate justice and the Global South
- Criminal justice from the perspectives of victims in the Third World context
- Contemporary challenges and future directions of TWAIL

- Other scholars working on relevant areas of international law
Submission Details
Participants are required to submit original research work in accordance with the seminar requirements.
The important submission deadlines are:
- Abstract Submission: October 25, 2026
- Full Paper Submission: November 25, 2026
Authors should ensure that their submissions engage with the seminar theme and relevant aspects of TWAIL.
