I am a law student at USLLS, GGSIPU, currently maintaining a CGPA of 9.1 and holding Rank 1 in my batch. Alongside my law degree, I am also pursuing the CS Executive course with the long-term goal of building a career at a Tier-1 law firm. While I have completed several online internships, my college’s internship policy permits offline internships only during July and a 15-day winter break, which has limited my opportunities to gain practical legal exposure.
Although I have focused on maintaining strong academics, I feel uncertain about how to strategically build my profile and make the best use of my remaining years in law school. I would like to develop practical skills while ensuring that I stay on the right path toward my long-term career goals.
Could you please guide me on how I can develop practical legal drafting skills, and whether freelancing is a realistic way to gain experience and earn during law school? Based on my current profile, what would be a practical roadmap to eventually secure a position at a Tier-1 law firm? I am also unsure whether I should pursue litigation or corporate law and how to identify a specialization that suits me instead of trying to explore every practice area. Additionally, how can I effectively balance law school, CS Executive preparation, internship opportunities, and profile-building? Finally, do online certifications from platforms such as Coursera, Harvard, Yale, or SWAYAM meaningfully strengthen a legal CV, and if so, how should they be presented to employers?
